Technicon AutoAnalyzer Continuous Flow Apparatus

Continuous flow analyzers transport reagents and samples continuously through the tubing and are mechanically simpler than robotic analyzers. Autoanalyzers are also commonly used in soil testing laboratories, fertilizer analysis, process control, seawater analysis, air contaminants, and tobacco leaf analysis.

A continuous flow system is disclosed in which successive liquid segments are established containing different related components of a fluid package, such as an analysis mixture, separated by at least one immiscible segment, passed along a first section of a conduit, combined in a second section of the conduit and mixed while passing along a third section of the conduit, so as to provide a completely mixed segment. This system permits the delayed on-line mixing of different components of an analysis mixture, such as samples with reagents or diluents, as well as mixing and interaction of such components in a single conduit.

The Technicon 37.5°C heating bath-pump, for discrete or continuous flow systems, maintains the required temperature of the reaction mixture and provides the delay necessary to allow complete color development. The principal components of the heating bath are the heat transfer medium (i.e., water or air), the heating element, and the thermoregulator. This bath is equipped with a glass G-coil (7.7mL).
