The Vector PCX provides the selectivity and sensitivity required for most standard post-column applications while being reliable and easy to use. Its function is to chemically modify compounds from HPLC analysis after they have been separated by the analytical column but before they reach the detector. The chemical reaction produces a new compound that is easier to detect (e.g., via fluorescence or UV absorption). Since Vector PCX does not have a column oven it is important to use the HPLC column oven (not included) to ensure stable column temperature and prevent retention time drifts and separation problems.
